E106 means the Cavity 1 door latch failed to lock within one minute of the lock command being sent by the control module. The oven monitors latch position through a door latch switch, and when that switch does not confirm a successful lock in time, the oven stops further attempts and displays this code. This fault most often appears when initiating a self-clean cycle, which requires the door to lock before heating begins.

Normal baking functions may still operate when E106 is present, since the latch is primarily required for self-clean mode. However, you should not attempt to run a self-clean cycle until the fault is resolved, as the oven is designed to prevent high-heat operation without a confirmed door lock. Continuing to use the oven for everyday cooking while the latch fault exists is generally low risk, but the underlying issue should be addressed promptly.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. If the issue is simply a loose wiring connection, the cost may only be a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. Replacing a door latch switch or latch motor generally costs between $100 and $300 including parts and labor. A control board replacement is the most expensive scenario and can range from $250 to $600 or more depending on the specific model.

Some causes of E106 are DIY-friendly. Start by inspecting the latch mechanism for debris or binding and checking that all wiring connectors at the latch assembly and control board are securely attached. If the latch moves freely and connections are intact, the door latch switch or latch motor may need replacement, which requires more comfort with appliance disassembly. A failed control board is best handled by a qualified technician.

Resetting the oven by cutting power at the breaker for a few minutes may temporarily clear the code, but it will return the next time the control module attempts to lock the door. Because E106 is caused by a physical or electrical failure in the latch system, a reset alone will not fix the underlying problem. The fault must be diagnosed and the faulty component repaired or replaced to prevent the code from reappearing.
