Bosch Oven Error Code F31

F31 on a Bosch oven indicates a failure in the upper oven temperature sensor circuit due to an open or short circuit. The control board cannot receive a valid temperature reading, so it shuts down normal operation and displays this fault code. The problem can stem from a faulty sensor probe, damaged wiring, or a loose connection at connector P4 on the Power Board.

It is not recommended to use the oven while F31 is active. The error means the oven cannot accurately monitor its internal temperature, which could result in overheating or unpredictable heating behavior. Power the oven off and arrange for diagnosis before using it again.

Repair costs depend on which component has failed. A replacement oven temperature sensor probe typically costs between $20 and $60 for the part. A wiring harness repair or replacement can range from $30 to $100 in parts. If the Power Board requires replacement, parts alone can run from $150 to $350, with additional labor costs if a technician performs the repair.

Resetting the oven by cutting power at the breaker for a few minutes may temporarily clear the F31 code, but it will return as soon as the control board checks the sensor circuit again. The underlying open or short circuit condition must be diagnosed and repaired for the fault to be permanently resolved.

Start by inspecting the P4 connector on the Power Board for loose, corroded, or burned pins and reseat it firmly. If the connection is secure, use a multimeter to test the resistance of the temperature sensor probe and check the wiring harness for continuity and visible damage. Replace the sensor probe or harness if either tests outside acceptable parameters. If those components check out, the Power Board may need to be evaluated.
