F42 means the lower motorized door latch failed to reach its locked position. The oven monitors feedback from latch position switches to confirm the door is secured, and when that confirmation does not arrive, it posts this code. The fault can stem from a defective latch motor, faulty switches, a physical jam in the latch mechanism, or a wiring issue including the P24 connector on the Power Board.

The F42 error specifically affects the self-clean cycle, which requires the door to be locked. Normal baking and broiling functions may still operate, but you should not attempt to run a self-clean cycle while this fault is active. If the door latch mechanism is jammed or damaged, have it inspected before continued use to ensure the oven door operates correctly.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. If only the P24 connector needs reseating or the latch needs cleaning, a service call may be the primary expense, generally in the range of $75 to $150 for the visit. If the latch motor or switches require replacement, total costs including parts and labor typically fall between $150 and $350, depending on parts availability and local labor rates.

Some causes of F42 are DIY-friendly, such as reseating the P24 connector on the Power Board or clearing a debris obstruction from the latch assembly.
