What F151 means on a Bosch range
The F151 error code on a Bosch range indicates a failure in the EEPROM or in the communication circuit between the display control board and the power board. The EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) stores critical operational data for the range, including calibration settings and user preferences. When this memory cannot be read or written correctly, or when the communication link between the two main boards is disrupted, the control system flags F151 to alert that normal operation cannot be guaranteed.
The communication between the display control board and the power board travels through an 8-wire connector cable. This cable carries data signals that allow the two boards to coordinate functions such as burner ignition, oven temperature regulation, and user input processing. A loose connector at either end, a broken wire within the harness, or corrosion on the connector pins can all interrupt this communication pathway and trigger the error.
Diagnosing F151 begins with a physical inspection of the communication cable connections at both the display control board and the power board. After disconnecting the cable, each of the 8 individual wires should be tested for continuity from one connector end to the other. Any wire showing an open circuit or high resistance indicates a break or fault in the harness. If all wires pass continuity testing and the connections seat firmly, the fault may lie within the EEPROM itself, pointing toward a board-level failure requiring component replacement.

Common causes of F151
- 01
Loose communication cable connector
Wiring / connectionThe 8-wire cable connecting the display control board to the power board may have worked loose at one or both ends. Check that each connector is fully seated and latched securely.
- 02
Broken or damaged wire in the communication harness
Part replacementOne or more of the 8 wires in the harness may have a break or damaged insulation causing an open circuit. Test each wire individually for continuity with connectors disconnected to identify the faulty conductor.
- 03
Corroded or burnt connector pins
Part replacementMoisture or heat exposure can corrode or damage the pins inside the communication cable connectors, increasing resistance and interrupting the signal. Inspect the pins visually and clean or replace the connector as needed.
- 04
Failed display control board
Part replacementIf the communication cable and all wiring check out correctly, the EEPROM chip or surrounding circuitry on the display control board may have failed internally, requiring board replacement.
- 05
Failed power board
Part replacementA fault in the power board's communication interface can also produce the F151 code even when the wiring harness is intact. This is typically diagnosed after ruling out all wiring and connector issues.
