What 1101 means on a Bosch refrigerator
Error code 1101 on a Bosch refrigerator indicates an inverter error related to torque limitation. The inverter board controls the variable-speed compressor motor by regulating the frequency and voltage delivered to it. When the inverter detects that the compressor motor is drawing more torque than the system allows, it triggers this fault to protect the compressor from damage. Torque limitation occurs when the motor requires more rotational force than the inverter can safely supply, which is typically a symptom of excessive mechanical load rather than an electronics failure.
The first and most critical diagnostic step is to inspect the cooling circuit for conditions that would increase compressor load. A refrigerant overcharge, a restriction in the refrigerant lines, a clogged filter drier, or a failing expansion device can all raise the pressure differential across the compressor, forcing it to work harder. High head pressure caused by condenser coil blockage or inadequate airflow around the unit can also produce this condition. These mechanical and refrigerant-side issues place extra demand on the compressor motor, causing the inverter to hit its torque ceiling.
If the cooling circuit checks out and pressures are within specification, the compressor itself may be developing internal wear or a mechanical binding condition that increases its load. The inverter board may also have a fault that causes it to incorrectly report torque limits. Diagnosis should proceed from the refrigerant circuit outward to the compressor and finally to the inverter electronics.

Common causes of 1101
- 01
High head pressure from condenser restriction
Wiring / connectionBlocked or dirty condenser coils force the compressor to work against higher pressure, increasing the torque load on the motor. Inspect the condenser coils for dust buildup and verify condenser fan operation.
- 02
Refrigerant circuit restriction
Part replacementA clogged filter drier, kinked line, or faulty expansion device creates abnormal pressure differentials that overload the compressor. Manifold gauge readings will show abnormally high head pressure or low suction pressure compared to expected values.
- 03
Refrigerant overcharge
Wiring / connectionToo much refrigerant in the sealed system raises operating pressures beyond normal range, increasing the mechanical load on the compressor motor. This requires a certified technician to measure system pressures and recover excess refrigerant.
- 04
Mechanically worn or failing compressor
Part replacementInternal compressor wear or early mechanical failure causes the motor to require excessive torque to complete each stroke. This will typically be confirmed after ruling out refrigerant-side causes.
- 05
Faulty inverter board
Part replacementIf the cooling circuit and compressor test within specification, the inverter board itself may have a defect causing it to incorrectly trigger torque limitation faults. This is the least common cause and should be diagnosed after all other possibilities are ruled out.
