When voltage falls below these levels, the refrigerator's control board detects an unsafe or insufficient power condition and halts normal operation entirely to protect internal components from damage caused by undervoltage.

The power monitoring circuit continuously measures the incoming mains voltage and compares it against the programmed minimum threshold. Once voltage drops below the cutoff, the appliance suspends compressor operation, cooling cycles, and other functions until the supply voltage recovers to an acceptable level. This is a protective feature rather than a component failure, meaning the refrigerator itself may be fully functional once adequate voltage is restored.

The most common external causes include brownout conditions from the utility grid, overloaded household circuits, undersized or damaged wiring, and failing circuit breakers that allow partial voltage through. In some cases, a faulty power outlet or a deteriorating extension cord can introduce enough resistance to cause a significant voltage drop at the appliance.
