Bradford White Water Heater Error Code Solid ON (WR Electronic)

The Solid ON LED condition on a Bradford White water heater equipped with a White Rodgers electronic gas control is not a fault or error code. Instead, it indicates that the control has entered a deliberate shutdown mode. This state is triggered when the setpoint knob is turned to the OFF position. The White Rodgers electronic control module monitors the knob position and, upon detecting the OFF setting, places the gas valve and ignition system in a controlled shutdown state. The LED remains continuously illuminated during this period as a status indicator, signaling that the shutdown sequence has been initiated but the control has not yet fully de-energized.

During shutdown mode, the control is in a transitional state between active operation and a fully powered-down condition. Attempting to relight the water heater or turn the setpoint knob back to an operating temperature before the LED extinguishes can interfere with this sequence. The White Rodgers control requires time to complete its internal shutdown cycle and reset its logic before it is ready to accept a new startup command. The LED going dark confirms that the control has finished its shutdown routine and is ready for a normal relight procedure.

This condition is entirely normal and does not indicate any component failure, wiring fault, or safety lockout. No parts replacement is needed. The correct response is simply to wait for the LED to go out completely before proceeding with the standard relight procedure outlined on the water heater's label. This typically takes only a short time after the knob is turned to OFF.
