Dometic Refrigerator Error Code E0
No communication between display and power modules; the control system reverts to full automatic operation…
No communication between display and power modules; the control system reverts to full automatic operation selecting the best energy source available with AC first and GAS second priority, maintaining thermostat at mid position.
First step from the service manual
Test control cable between upper and lower control, control (on-off) panel and lower board, clean all grounds, and try a different DC power source. If problem still exists change lower control board.
The complete diagnostic procedure includes additional test steps, resistance specifications, wiring diagram references, and component test points.

What E0 means on a Dometic refrigerator
The E0 error code on a Dometic refrigerator indicates a loss of communication between the display module (upper control) and the power module (lower control board). These two modules rely on a control cable to exchange data about user settings, thermostat position, and energy source selection. When that communication link is broken or corrupted, the system cannot pass commands from the display to the power board, and the refrigerator enters a failsafe mode.
In failsafe mode, the unit reverts to full automatic operation. It prioritizes AC power first, then LP gas second, and holds the thermostat at the mid position. This behavior protects the contents of the refrigerator in the absence of user control, but it does mean the unit is no longer responding to any input from the display panel.
The most common root causes involve the physical control cable running between the upper and lower sections of the unit, poor ground connections, or a failed lower control board. Dirty or corroded grounds can create enough electrical noise or voltage drop to disrupt the data signal between the two modules. A weak or fluctuating DC power source can also prevent stable communication. If cleaning grounds, inspecting the cable, and substituting a known-good DC source do not resolve the fault, the lower control board is the likely failed component and will need replacement.

Common causes of E0
- 01
Damaged or disconnected control cable
Wiring / connectionThe control cable running between the upper display module and the lower power board is the primary communication link. A pinched, corroded, or disconnected cable will immediately trigger E0.
- 02
Poor or corroded ground connections
Wiring / connectionDirty or loose ground connections can introduce enough electrical interference to disrupt the data signal between the two control modules. Inspect and clean all ground points on both the upper and lower assemblies.
- 03
Inadequate or unstable DC power supply
Wiring / connectionThe control modules require a stable DC voltage to maintain communication. A weak battery, failing converter, or unstable DC source can cause intermittent or persistent E0 faults. Testing with a known-good DC source is a key diagnostic step.
- 04
Failed lower control board
Part replacementIf the cable, grounds, and DC source all check out, the lower control board itself may have failed internally, preventing it from receiving or processing signals from the display. Replacement of the lower board is the indicated repair at this stage.
- 05
Faulty display or upper control panel
Part replacementLess commonly, the upper display and control panel may fail and stop transmitting communication signals down to the lower board. This is typically considered after the lower board and cable have been ruled out.
