Frigidaire Range Error Code E-28

E-28 means the oven temperature sensor has shorted, with resistance dropping below 930 to 940 ohms. At room temperature, a properly functioning sensor should measure approximately 1080 ohms. The control board monitors this resistance continuously and locks out oven operation when it detects a shorted sensor to prevent temperature control errors.

You should not use the oven while E-28 is active. A shorted sensor means the control board cannot accurately read or regulate oven temperature, which creates a risk of overheating. Surface burners on a gas or electric range may still function, but the oven should remain off until the fault is resolved.

If only the oven temperature sensor needs replacement, parts typically range from $20 to $60 depending on the model. If a technician performs the repair, expect total costs in the range of $100 to $250 including labor. Harness repairs or control board replacement will increase the cost, with control boards often ranging from $150 to $350 or more for parts alone.

Many DIYers can resolve E-28 by replacing the oven sensor, which involves disconnecting power, removing the back cover, unplugging the sensor harness, and measuring resistance with a multimeter. If the sensor reads abnormal, replacing it is a straightforward repair. If the wiring harness or control board is involved, those repairs may be more complex and could benefit from a technician.

Disconnecting power briefly may temporarily clear the code, but E-28 will return as soon as the control board reads the sensor resistance again and detects the out-of-range value. A reset does not address the underlying shorted sensor or wiring. The fault must be repaired to permanently clear the code.
