The F2 code on a Frigidaire range means the main Electronic Oven Control (EOC) has detected a break in the communications link with the Electronic Surface Element Control (ESEC) board. This link allows the two boards to exchange control and status signals for the cooktop surface elements. On some Frigidaire models, this code appears as F20. The fault can stem from a loose connector, damaged wiring, or a failed board.

A communication failure between the EOC and ESEC board means the surface elements may not operate correctly or respond to controls as expected. Using the cooktop in this condition is not recommended, as you cannot be certain the elements will behave predictably. The oven function may still operate depending on your model, but the cooktop should be considered unreliable until the fault is repaired.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, the repair may cost nothing beyond your time. If a wiring harness needs replacement, parts and labor typically run in the range of $75 to $200 depending on the harness and your location. Replacing the ESEC board generally costs between $150 and $350 for parts and labor, while replacing the EOC can range from $200 to $450 or more depending on the specific board.

If you are comfortable working with appliance electronics and can safely disconnect power before opening the control panel, you can start by checking and reseating the connector between P4 on the EOC and P7 on the left front ESEC board. This is the first recommended diagnostic step and costs nothing if the connector was simply loose. If the problem is a failed ESEC board or EOC, replacing those components typically requires sourcing the correct part and some disassembly skill.

Resetting the range by cycling the circuit breaker may temporarily clear the F2 code, but if the underlying communication problem still exists, the code will return once the control attempts to communicate with the ESEC board again. A reset is not a repair. The root cause, whether a loose connector, damaged wiring, or failed board, needs to be diagnosed and corrected for the code to stay cleared.
