Frigidaire Range Error Code HE

HE stands for Hot Element and is a residual heat warning displayed by the ESEC surface element control system on Frigidaire ranges. It appears after a cooktop element has been turned off to warn that the surface is still too hot to touch safely. It is a safety indicator, not a fault code, and will clear automatically once the surface cools down.

The cooktop surface itself is unsafe to touch while HE is displayed, as the surface remains dangerously hot. However, you can safely turn the element back on and continue cooking even while HE is showing. Avoid placing hands or flammable materials on the hot surface area.

In the vast majority of cases, HE requires no repair and costs nothing to resolve. If the indicator fails to clear after full cooling and a temperature sensor or ESEC control board replacement is needed, repair costs can range from around $100 to $350 or more depending on the part and labor involved.

In nearly all cases, no fix is needed. Simply allow the cooktop surface to cool and the HE indicator will clear on its own. If the indicator remains on after the cooktop has returned to room temperature, the temperature sensor or ESEC control board may need to be inspected by a technician.

Resetting the range by cutting power will not clear HE if the surface is still physically hot, because the indicator is tied to actual surface temperature. The HE display will only clear once the cooktop has cooled sufficiently, regardless of whether the unit is power cycled.
