The SCC code itself is not a dangerous condition. It is a safety response designed to protect the appliance and the user by stopping the high-heat cleaning cycle when cooktop activity is detected. The door lock that engages afterward is also a safety feature, preventing the oven door from being opened while the interior is still at extremely high temperatures. Do not attempt to force the door open while it is locked.

In most cases, the SCC error requires no repair and no parts because it is caused by user activity rather than a component failure. If the code appears repeatedly without any cooktop use, a faulty burner switch could be the cause, and switch replacement typically costs in the range of $20 to $80 for the part, plus labor if a technician is needed. Wait for the oven door to unlock on its own, which can take up to four hours if the oven was at full cleaning temperature. Once the door is unlocked and the oven has cooled, restart the self-clean cycle and make sure no cooktop burners are used during the process. If the oven had not reached full cleaning temperature when the error occurred, you can start another clean cycle right away.

Simply resetting the range by cutting power will not bypass the door lock if the oven is still above cleaning temperature, as the thermal interlock is a safety mechanism tied to the door latch assembly. The door will not unlock until the oven cools to a safe level regardless of a power reset. Once cooled and unlocked, the SCC condition clears and the range operates normally after restarting the clean cycle.
