The d2 display on a Frigidaire refrigerator indicates that the unit is currently running in Forced Defrost mode. This is not a fault code or error condition. It is an active status indicator showing that the defrost cycle has been manually initiated, either through a specific button sequence on the control panel or through a diagnostic test mode. During this mode, the defrost heater is energized to melt any frost accumulation on the evaporator coils, and the compressor and evaporator fan are typically paused to allow heat transfer to the coils.

Forced Defrost mode is a built-in diagnostic and maintenance function. Technicians use it to manually trigger a defrost cycle when diagnosing frost buildup issues, testing the defrost heater, or verifying that the defrost thermostat and defrost control board are functioning correctly. The cycle runs the defrost heater until the defrost thermostat reaches its cutout temperature, at which point the heater shuts off and normal refrigeration resumes. The d2 display simply confirms that this process is actively underway.

Once the forced defrost cycle completes, the display will return to normal temperature readings and the refrigerator will resume standard operation.
