GE Microwave Error Code LOC

LOC on a GE microwave means the control lock feature is active, preventing any keypad buttons from responding. This is a built-in safety function stored in the control board's memory and is not an indication of a hardware failure. The microwave itself is in normal working condition and will operate again once the lock is cleared.

The LOC code does not indicate any safety hazard. The microwave is simply locked and cannot be started, which is exactly what the control lock feature is designed to do. Once you unlock the control panel, the unit is safe to use normally.

In most cases, there is no repair cost because LOC is resolved by simply pressing and holding the CLEAR/OFF button. If the issue is caused by a faulty membrane keypad, replacement parts typically range from $20 to $60 depending on the model. A control board replacement, needed only in rare cases, generally costs between $80 and $200 for the part alone, plus any labor charges if a technician is involved.

Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF button for approximately 3 seconds. The LOC indicator should disappear and the keypad will become responsive again. If this does not work, unplug the microwave for 60 seconds to reset the control board, then try the CLEAR/OFF hold again.

A power reset by unplugging the microwave for about 60 seconds can clear the LOC state if the standard CLEAR/OFF button hold does not work. However, the recommended first step is always to press and hold CLEAR/OFF for 3 seconds, since that is the proper method for disengaging the control lock without a full reset.
