GE Microwave Error Code RESET

RESET is a normal status message that appears on GE microwaves after power is applied or restored following an interruption. All display segments light up for about 15 seconds as part of a self-check routine, then RESET appears to indicate the clock needs to be set. It is not an error code indicating a malfunction. Press the CLOCK pad and enter the current time to clear the message.

The RESET message does not indicate a safety issue or a component failure. The microwave is going through its normal startup routine. However, some GE models may restrict cooking functions until the clock is set, so completing the clock setup first is recommended before attempting to cook.

Unplugging and replugging the microwave will not clear the RESET message. In fact, removing power is one of the causes of the RESET prompt appearing in the first place, since the clock setting is lost whenever power is cut. The only way to clear RESET is to press the CLOCK pad and enter the correct time.

Press the CLOCK pad on the microwave's control panel, then follow the prompts to enter the correct time. Once the clock is successfully set, the RESET message will clear and the microwave will be ready for normal use. No tools or parts are required.

In the vast majority of cases, there is no cost at all since the RESET message simply means the clock needs to be set after a power interruption. If the message keeps returning without an obvious cause and a control board fault is suspected, board replacement costs can range from roughly $80 to $200 or more depending on the model, plus any labor charges if a technician is involved.
