The 1st LED flash error on a Haier refrigerator indicates a fault with the ambient temperature sensor, also referred to as the RT SNR (room temperature sensor). This sensor is physically located below the hinge box of the freezer compartment and is responsible for measuring the surrounding air temperature. The refrigerator's control board uses this ambient temperature reading to adjust compressor operation, fan speeds, and cooling cycles to compensate for the environment the unit is operating in. When the sensor fails or reports a value outside the acceptable operating range, the control board triggers this LED flash alert to notify the user or technician that the input data from this sensor is unreliable.

Failure of the ambient temperature sensor typically manifests in one of two ways: either the sensor's resistance value has drifted beyond the acceptable range for the expected ambient conditions, or the electrical connection between the sensor and the control board has been compromised. Sensors of this type are negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors, meaning their resistance decreases as temperature rises. A fully open circuit will present as infinite resistance, while a short circuit will present near zero ohms. Both conditions will register as an out-of-range reading and trigger the fault code.

Because the sensor is located near the hinge box of the freezer, it is positioned in an area that may experience mechanical stress from door operation, condensation exposure, or temperature cycling. These environmental factors can degrade the sensor body, its wiring harness, or the connector terminals over time. Diagnosing this fault requires checking both the sensor's resistance at room temperature and the continuity of the wiring from the sensor back to the control board.
