LG Air Conditioner Error Code 05

Error code 05, also displayed as CH05, indicates a communication error between the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. The indoor unit PCB is not receiving the expected signal from the outdoor unit. This prevents normal operation and requires diagnosis of the communication wiring, terminal connections, and the outdoor unit PCB.

The error itself is not a safety emergency, but the underlying cause may involve electrical faults at the outdoor unit or its wiring. Avoid handling wiring or PCBs while the unit is energized. If you suspect a wiring fault or the outdoor unit is making unusual sounds, shut off power at the breaker and contact a technician.

Repair costs vary significantly depending on the cause. Fixing a loose wire connection may cost only the price of a service call, typically in the range of $75 to $150. Replacing an outdoor unit PCB is more involved, with parts and labor costs often ranging from $300 to $700 or more depending on the model and local labor rates. Getting a diagnosis from a certified LG technician before purchasing parts is recommended.

Some causes of CH05 can be addressed without specialized tools, such as re-securing a loose communication wire terminal or resetting a tripped breaker at the outdoor unit. However, diagnosing a failed PCB or tracing wiring faults inside electrical panels involves live voltage and should be handled by a qualified technician. Start by checking that the outdoor unit has power and that all wiring connections are visibly secure.

A power reset may temporarily clear the display, but CH05 will return if the root cause has not been resolved. If the communication wiring is damaged or the outdoor unit PCB is faulty, the error will reappear as soon as the system attempts to restart.
