Both conditions cause the dishwasher to halt the cycle and display E3. Checking the heater connectors and the inlet valve are the recommended first diagnostic steps.

It is not recommended to continue running the dishwasher while E3 is active. A leaking inlet valve can allow uncontrolled water flow into the tub, and a non-functional heating element means dishes will not be properly sanitized. Running the unit in this condition could also mask further damage to the control board or other components.
