IE stands for Inlet Error on an LG dishwasher. It means the appliance could not fill to the required water level within its allotted fill time. Causes range from simple supply issues like a closed tap or kinked hose to component failures such as a clogged inlet valve filter, defective inlet valve, stuck flow meter impeller, faulty hall sensor, or damaged control board.

A reset may temporarily clear the IE code, but the error will return at the start of the next fill cycle if the underlying problem is not corrected. To reset, power the unit off at the circuit breaker or unplug it for a few minutes, then restore power. Use the reset only after addressing the actual cause of insufficient water flow.

If the fix involves only opening a supply valve or straightening a hose, there is no parts cost. Cleaning a clogged inlet valve filter is also a no-cost repair. Replacing a defective inlet valve typically costs in the range of $25 to $75 for the part, while a new flow meter assembly or hall sensor generally falls in the $20 to $60 range. Start by confirming the water supply tap under the sink is fully open, then inspect the inlet hose for kinks. Next, disconnect the inlet hose at the dishwasher and clean the filter screen on the inlet valve. If those steps do not resolve the error, check the wiring connections to the inlet valve and hall sensor before testing the valve and sensor for electrical faults.

You should not attempt to run the dishwasher while the IE error is active. The appliance halts the cycle specifically to prevent the wash pump from operating without adequate water, which can damage the pump motor. Resolve the water supply or component issue before resuming normal use.
