LG Dishwasher Error Code OE

OE is a drain error code indicating that the dishwasher was unable to drain water down to its normal level during the drain cycle. It can be triggered by a blocked filter, a kinked or clogged drain hose, a restricted air gap, an unremoved garbage disposal knockout plug, or a faulty drain motor or controller. The code appears when the control board detects that water remains in the tub beyond the expected drain window. Start diagnosis by inspecting and cleaning the filter assembly at the bottom of the tub.

You should not continue running the dishwasher while the OE code is active. Water left standing in the tub can lead to odors, mold growth, and potential overflow if another cycle is started. Repeated attempts to run the dishwasher with a blocked drain can also place additional strain on the drain motor. Resolve the underlying drain obstruction before resuming normal use.

If the cause is a clogged filter or a kinked hose, the repair costs nothing beyond your time. If the drain motor impeller is jammed by debris and can be cleared without replacement, there is again no parts cost. If the drain motor itself is defective and requires replacement, parts and labor typically range from around $150 to $350 depending on the specific model and your location. A faulty controller is a less common but more expensive repair, often ranging from $200 to $450 or more with labor included.

Begin by removing and cleaning the filter assembly at the base of the tub, as this is the most common cause. Next, check the drain hose for kinks or blockages, and inspect the air gap or garbage disposal connection point if applicable. If the dishwasher is newly installed alongside a garbage disposal, confirm the knockout plug was removed from the disposal inlet. If all physical obstructions are cleared and the error persists, the drain motor impeller or the motor itself may need to be inspected or replaced.

Resetting the dishwasher may temporarily clear the OE code, but it will return as soon as the appliance attempts to drain again if the underlying cause has not been resolved. A reset does not remove blockages or repair faulty components. Address the physical or mechanical cause first, then run a short cycle to confirm the drain is functioning correctly before considering the issue resolved.
