AE3 indicates a communication error between the DR Modem and the Main PBA inside the dryer. These two components exchange data signals to coordinate dryer operation, and when that link breaks down, the control system flags the AE3 fault. The cause is often a loose or damaged wire harness rather than a failed board. A technician will start by inspecting the wiring between the sensor board and the DR Modem.

It is not recommended to continue operating the dryer while the AE3 error is active. A communication failure between control components means the dryer may not properly monitor or regulate its own operation. Continuing to run the dryer in this condition could lead to unpredictable behavior or further damage to electronic components.

Unplugging the dryer for a few minutes and restarting it may temporarily clear the AE3 code, but if the underlying cause is not resolved the error will return. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent or persistent, but it does not repair a loose connector, damaged harness, or failed component. Proper diagnosis of the wire harness and communication modules is needed for a lasting fix.

If the harness is damaged or a board needs replacement, the repair becomes more complex and may be better suited to a qualified technician. Always unplug the dryer before opening any panels and handling internal components.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose harness connector, there may be little to no parts cost involved, though a service call still carries a labor fee typically in the range of $75 to $150. If the DR Modem module needs replacement, parts and labor combined generally fall in the $150 to $300 range.
