LG Dryer Error Code AE5

AE5 on an LG dryer signals a communication error between the LCD PBA (the display control board) and the Main PBA (the primary control board). The two boards have lost their data connection, which causes the dryer to stop operating. The fault is most often found in the wire harness connecting the two boards, though either board itself can also be the source of the failure.

Begin by inspecting the wire harness that runs between the LCD module and the Main PBA. Check both connector ends for loose seating, bent pins, corrosion, or visible wire damage and reseat or repair as needed. If the harness is in good condition, the LCD PBA or Main PBA may need to be tested and potentially replaced. Because this repair involves internal wiring and control boards, technicians with board-level diagnostic experience are best suited to complete it.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose harness connector, there may be little to no parts cost, though a service call fee will typically apply. If the wire harness needs replacement, parts and labor costs generally range from $75 to $200 depending on the part and local labor rates. Replacing the LCD PBA or Main PBA is more expensive, with total repair costs potentially ranging from $150 to $400 or more depending on which board is at fault and the technician's rates.

Unplugging the dryer for a few minutes and restoring power may temporarily clear the AE5 code, but if an underlying wiring or board problem is present, the error will return. A reset is a reasonable first step, but a persistent AE5 requires physical inspection of the harness and connectors between the LCD module and the Main PBA.

The dryer will generally not operate normally with an active AE5 error, as the communication failure between the control boards prevents proper function. Attempting to bypass or ignore the error is not recommended, since the Main PBA relies on the LCD board connection to manage core dryer operations safely. Have the fault diagnosed and repaired before resuming normal use.
