The EE code on an LG dryer means the steam generator's water level sensors did not detect a full water condition within 60 seconds of the steam cycle starting. It can also appear due to a loose or incorrect wire connection in the steam system, or an EEPROM operation failure on the main control board. The dryer halts the steam function to prevent damage from running the generator dry.

Running a steam cycle while the EE error is active is not recommended, as the dryer has detected a problem with water level detection in the steam generator. Using steam functions without a confirmed water supply could potentially damage the steam generator components. Standard drying cycles without steam may still operate normally, but it is best to resolve the error before continuing regular use.

If the fix is simply refilling the steam feeder, there is no parts cost involved. Wiring repairs are generally low cost, typically in the range of $50 to $150 for a service call and minor connector repair. If the main control board requires replacement due to an EEPROM fault, parts and labor costs can range from $150 to $350 or more depending on the specific model and local labor rates.

Start by removing the steam feeder and refilling it with clean water to the proper fill line, then reinsert it firmly and restart the cycle. If the error returns, inspect the wiring harness connectors leading to the steam generator and water level sensors for looseness or corrosion. On electric dryers, also confirm the power cord is securely and correctly connected at the terminal block. If all hardware checks out, the control board may need professional evaluation or replacement.

A reset alone is unlikely to permanently clear the EE error if an underlying issue is still present. Filling the steam feeder with adequate water and restarting the cycle is the correct first step. If the root cause is a wiring fault or EEPROM problem, the code will return after a reset until the actual cause is corrected.
