The tE1 code on an LG dryer indicates a thermistor error, meaning the control board is detecting a problem with the temperature sensor circuit. The thermistor is responsible for monitoring drum air temperature, and a fault here can prevent the dryer from heating correctly or from shutting the heater off at the right time. The issue may be in the sensor itself, the wiring harness, or the connector.

Running the dryer with an active tE1 error is not recommended. Because the thermistor controls heater cycling, a fault in this circuit could cause the heater to stay on longer than intended, creating an overheating risk. It is best to leave the dryer out of service until the thermistor circuit has been inspected and repaired.

If only the thermistor sensor needs replacement, parts typically cost in the range of $15 to $40, making it one of the more affordable dryer repairs. If the control board is the culprit, parts alone can range from $100 to $250 or more depending on the model.
