LG Heat Pump Error Code E206

E206 indicates that three or more indoor units connected through a confluence kit have been assigned the same address on their MCU rotary switches. LG multi-split systems require each indoor unit to have a unique address so the system can communicate with them individually. When this conflict exists at three or more units, the system flags E206 and will not operate normally until the duplicate addresses are corrected.

E206 is a configuration error rather than a safety hazard. It will prevent the system from operating correctly, but it does not indicate a refrigerant leak, electrical fault, or fire risk. However, leaving the error unresolved means the heat pump cannot provide heating or cooling, so prompt correction is recommended to avoid comfort issues and potential strain on the system.

If the fix only requires adjusting the rotary switch addresses, the cost is primarily a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150 depending on your location and technician rates. If a faulty MCU board with a damaged rotary switch needs to be replaced, parts and labor combined could range from $200 to $500 or more. Most E206 cases are resolved without parts replacement.

To fix E206, power down the system and locate the rotary switch on the MCU of each indoor unit. Check all switch positions and identify any address value that appears on three or more units. Reassign those switches so every indoor unit has a unique address, then restart the system. If the error clears, the conflict has been resolved. If it persists, check for a faulty rotary switch that may not be holding its position.

A simple power reset will not permanently clear E206 if the underlying address conflict still exists. The error will return as soon as the system restarts and detects the duplicate rotary switch settings. The only way to clear E206 for good is to correct the address assignments on the affected indoor units before restarting.
