LG Heat Pump Error Code E209

E209 indicates that two or more MCUs in the system have overlapping indoor unit address values set on their rotary switches. LG multi-zone systems require each MCU to have a unique address so the units can communicate correctly on the shared control bus. This error halts normal operation until the conflict is resolved by assigning distinct address values to each unit.

E209 is a configuration and communication fault, not a refrigerant leak or electrical hazard. However, operating the system with conflicting addresses means the affected units cannot be properly controlled or monitored. It is best to have the error corrected promptly to avoid unintended heating or cooling behavior and to restore full system control.

In most cases, E209 is resolved through a configuration adjustment rather than parts replacement, so the cost is primarily a service call and labor fee, typically in the range of $75 to $200 depending on your location and the technician. If a faulty MCU board or damaged rotary switch is found to be causing the conflict, parts and additional labor could bring the total to the $150 to $500 range or more.

To fix E209, a technician must inspect the rotary address switches on every MCU in the system and identify which units share the same address value. The duplicate switch must be physically repositioned to an unused address number. After correcting all addresses, power down the entire system and restart it so the communication bus can reinitialize with the new, unique addresses.

A simple power reset will not permanently clear E209 because the underlying address conflict on the rotary switches still exists. The system will re-detect the duplicate addresses after restarting and trigger the fault again. The error will only clear once the rotary switches are physically adjusted so that each MCU has a unique, non-overlapping address.
