LG Heat Pump Error Code E212

E212 indicates that a DIP switch on the branch controller is set to OFF for a branch that has an indoor unit physically connected to it. The system requires the DIP switch for each active branch to be in the ON position. This is a configuration error rather than a component failure in most cases. Correcting the switch position on the appropriate branch will typically resolve the error.

Operating the system with an active E212 error is not recommended. The indoor unit connected to the misconfigured branch will not be properly recognized or controlled by the system, which can lead to improper operation or no operation on that branch. Address the DIP switch configuration before attempting to run the system normally.

If the issue is only a misconfigured DIP switch, the repair cost is limited to a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150 depending on your location and the technician. No parts are needed for a simple switch adjustment. If the branch controller PCB is faulty and needs replacement, total repair costs including parts and labor can range from $300 to $700 or more depending on the specific model and part availability.

Locate the branch controller in the system and identify which branch port the affected indoor unit is connected to. Find the DIP switch bank on the branch controller PCB and set the switch corresponding to that branch to the ON position. After making the adjustment, cycle power to the system to allow it to reinitialize and confirm the error has cleared. If the error persists after setting the switch correctly, the branch controller PCB may require further inspection or replacement.

A simple power reset will not permanently clear E212 because the error is caused by a physical DIP switch position that the system re-reads every time it initializes. The error will return after each reset until the DIP switch for the affected branch is physically moved to the ON position. The fix must be made at the hardware level on the branch controller.
