LG Heat Pump Error Code P519

P519 indicates that the outdoor unit electronic expansion valve (EEV) failed its open position self-diagnosis check. The system commands the valve to open and monitors whether the valve reaches that position. When confirmation is not received, P519 is logged. This fault directly affects refrigerant flow control and should be diagnosed promptly.

Continuing to operate the system with P519 active is not advisable. A non-functioning EEV can cause improper refrigerant flow, which may lead to compressor damage, high pressure faults, or inadequate heating and cooling. Shutting the system down until the fault is resolved helps prevent further damage to refrigerant circuit components.

Repair costs vary depending on the failed component. EEV coil replacement tends to be less expensive, while replacing the full valve assembly or the outdoor control board carries higher parts and labor costs. Total repair estimates typically range from a few hundred dollars for a coil or wiring repair up to several hundred dollars or more if the control board or full valve assembly requires replacement. Diagnostic labor charges vary by region.

Some basic checks such as inspecting the EEV wiring harness and reseating the connector can be done by a knowledgeable DIYer. However, testing EEV coil resistance, diagnosing the control board's drive output, and replacing the valve or board are tasks that require refrigeration tools and expertise. A certified HVAC technician is recommended for full diagnosis and repair.

A power reset may temporarily clear the fault code if the issue was caused by a transient signal error or a loose connection that re-seats itself. However, if the EEV coil, valve body, wiring, or control board has a hardware fault, the code will return as soon as the system runs its self-diagnosis routine again. A reset without identifying and correcting the root cause is not a lasting fix.
