P754 indicates that the outdoor unit Electronic Expansion Valve 1 (EEV 1) failed its self-closing diagnostic test. The system commands the valve to close fully and monitors whether the closure is confirmed. When confirmation fails, the system logs P754 and shuts down to prevent refrigerant flow problems or compressor damage. The fault points to an issue with the valve coil, wiring harness, valve body, or outdoor control board.

You should not continue to operate the system while P754 is active. The error indicates the refrigerant flow control valve is not functioning correctly, which can lead to improper refrigerant distribution and potential compressor damage. Allow the system to remain off until a qualified technician has diagnosed and resolved the fault.

A technician will disconnect the EEV coil connector and use a multimeter to measure resistance across each pair of coil winding terminals. An open circuit reading or a value significantly outside the expected range for the valve indicates a failed coil. The wiring harness should also be tested for continuity and inspected for corrosion, loose pins, and physical damage before condemning the coil or valve body.

Power cycling the unit may temporarily clear the error code, but P754 will return if the underlying hardware fault is not corrected. The self-diagnostic routine runs each time the system starts, so a failed EEV coil, damaged wiring, or stuck valve body will continue to trigger the fault. A reset alone is not a fix and is not recommended as a long-term solution.

Repair costs vary depending on the failed component. Replacing the EEV coil is generally a lower-cost repair, typically ranging from around $100 to $250 including labor.
