What E6 means on a Mabe dishwasher
The E6 error code on a Mabe dishwasher indicates a temperature sensor failure. The temperature sensor, also called a thermistor, is responsible for monitoring the water temperature inside the wash tub and reporting that data to the control board. The control board uses this information to regulate heating cycles, determine when water has reached the correct temperature for washing and sanitizing, and advance through the wash program properly. When the sensor sends a signal that falls outside the expected range, the control board logs E6 and may halt the cycle to prevent damage or unsafe operation.
The two primary failure modes covered by E6 are a short circuit and an open circuit (broken sensor). A short circuit causes the sensor to report an abnormally low resistance value, making the board interpret the water as extremely hot when it may not be. A broken or open sensor produces no continuity, causing the board to read no temperature signal at all. Either condition prevents the dishwasher from accurately managing the heating element and wash cycle timing.
Diagnosing E6 starts with a physical inspection of the temperature sensor and its wiring harness. Look for visible damage to the sensor body, corrosion on the connector terminals, or wiring that has melted or chafed against the heating element. If the wiring appears intact, the sensor itself should be tested with a multimeter for continuity and resistance. A faulty sensor will need to be replaced, and any damaged wiring in the harness must be repaired or replaced before the new sensor is installed.

Common causes of E6
- 01
Failed temperature sensor (thermistor)
Part replacementThe thermistor itself has burned out, shorted internally, or broken open, causing it to send an invalid signal to the control board. Testing with a multimeter will show either no continuity or a resistance value far outside the normal range.
- 02
Corroded or loose sensor connector
Wiring / connectionMoisture inside the dishwasher can corrode the electrical connector where the sensor plugs into the wiring harness, creating a poor or intermittent connection. Inspect the connector terminals for green or white corrosion deposits and check that the connector is seated firmly.
- 03
Damaged wiring harness
Part replacementThe wires running from the temperature sensor to the control board can become chafed, pinched, or melted if routed near the heating element. A visual inspection along the full length of the harness will reveal any breaks or insulation damage.
- 04
Water or detergent contamination on sensor
Wiring / connectionHeavy mineral buildup or detergent residue can coat the sensor body and affect its ability to read temperature accurately. Cleaning the sensor surface and surrounding area may resolve the issue if no physical damage is present.
- 05
Faulty control board
Part replacementIf the sensor and wiring both test correctly, the control board itself may have a damaged input circuit that is misreading the sensor signal. This is the least common cause and should only be considered after all other components have been ruled out.
