What F15 means on a Miele washer
The F15 error code on a Miele washer indicates that the machine has detected insufficient hot water intake during a wash cycle that calls for hot water. When the control board monitors incoming water temperature and finds that the hot water supply is not meeting the expected threshold within a set time period, it triggers F15 and automatically switches the machine over to cold water operation to allow the cycle to continue rather than stopping entirely. This behavior protects the wash cycle from failing completely, though it means the selected wash temperature may not be reached.
The hot water intake system on a Miele washer involves the hot water inlet valve, the associated inlet hose, and the intake filter screen located at the valve connection point. If any of these components are blocked, kinked, or failing, hot water flow will be restricted. The inlet filter screen in particular is a common restriction point, as mineral deposits and debris from household plumbing can accumulate over time and reduce flow to the point where the machine cannot satisfy its hot water demand.
Beyond the filter and supply line, the hot water inlet solenoid valve itself can be a source of the problem. If the valve is not opening fully due to electrical issues or internal wear, flow will be restricted even with adequate household water pressure. Additionally, the issue may originate entirely outside the machine: a closed or partially open hot water shutoff valve at the wall, or low hot water pressure from the home's water heater, will produce the same F15 condition.

Common causes of F15
- 01
Clogged hot water inlet filter screen
Wiring / connectionThe small mesh filter at the back of the washer where the hot water hose connects can become blocked with sediment and mineral buildup over time, restricting flow enough to trigger F15. Remove the hose, extract the filter screen, and rinse it clean under running water.
- 02
Hot water supply valve closed or partially closed
Wiring / connectionThe shutoff valve on the wall behind the washer may be fully or partially closed, cutting off hot water flow to the machine. Check that the valve is turned completely open and confirm hot water is available at a nearby faucet.
- 03
Kinked or obstructed hot water inlet hose
Wiring / connectionIf the hot water supply hose has been bent sharply or compressed behind the machine, water flow will be restricted even when the valve is open. Pull the washer out and inspect the hose for kinks or damage along its entire length.
- 04
Faulty hot water inlet solenoid valve
Part replacementThe electrically operated inlet valve that controls hot water entry into the machine can fail to open fully or at all due to a burned-out solenoid coil or internal debris blocking the valve seat. If the filter and supply are confirmed good, the valve may need testing and replacement.
- 05
Inadequate hot water pressure or temperature from the water heater
Wiring / connectionLow water pressure from the home's hot water heater or a heater that is set too low can result in the washer not receiving sufficient hot water within the expected fill time. Check the water heater setting and measure hot water pressure at the supply line if other causes have been ruled out.
