What F4126 means on a Miele washer
Error code F4126 on a Miele washer indicates that the control system has detected a short circuit in the tachogenerator signal during active speed measurement. The tachogenerator, sometimes called a tacho or speed sensor, is a small generator attached to the wash motor that produces an AC voltage signal proportional to motor speed. This signal is fed continuously to the frequency converter, which uses it to regulate motor RPM during wash and spin cycles. When the signal line shorts, the frequency converter receives corrupted or collapsed speed data and triggers F4126 to halt operation and prevent motor damage.
The short circuit can occur within the tachogenerator winding itself, in the wiring harness running between the motor assembly and the frequency converter, or at the connector points where those components interface. A shorted tachogenerator produces a near-zero or erratic voltage output instead of the clean AC waveform the converter expects. This makes the controller unable to confirm whether the motor is running at the commanded speed, making closed-loop speed control impossible.
Because the frequency converter relies on accurate tachogenerator feedback to safely ramp motor speed up and down, a short circuit condition is treated as a critical fault. The first diagnostic priority, per Miele guidance, is inspecting the wiring and connectors between the motor and frequency converter for damage, pinching, chafing, or corrosion. If the harness is intact, resistance testing of the tachogenerator winding itself will determine whether the sensor has failed internally.

Common causes of F4126
- 01
Damaged or shorted wiring harness
Part replacementThe wiring between the motor and frequency converter can become pinched, chafed against the drum, or damaged during servicing, causing a short circuit in the tachogenerator signal lines. Inspect the full length of the harness for visible insulation damage or contact with moving parts.
- 02
Faulty tachogenerator connector
Wiring / connectionCorrosion, loose pins, or a partially unseated connector at either the motor or frequency converter end can create a low-resistance path that the controller reads as a short. Unplug and reseat each connector, and check for bent or corroded terminals.
- 03
Failed tachogenerator winding
Part replacementThe tachogenerator coil itself can develop an internal short circuit due to insulation breakdown, overheating, or age. Resistance testing of the tachogenerator winding will reveal a near-zero reading if the coil has shorted internally, confirming the sensor needs replacement.
- 04
Frequency converter input fault
Part replacementIf the tachogenerator wiring and sensor test normal, the tachogenerator signal input circuit on the frequency converter board may have failed, causing it to incorrectly report a short. This is less common but should be considered after ruling out wiring and sensor issues.
