Samsung Freezer Error Code 1

Error code 1 on a Samsung freezer signals a fault with the freezer temperature sensor (F-SENSOR). The sensor circuit is either open or shorted, causing the control board to receive a temperature reading above +50°C or below -50°C, both of which are outside the valid operating range. The freezer cannot regulate temperature reliably without a working sensor signal.

It is not recommended to continue relying on the freezer while this error is active. Without a valid temperature sensor reading, the control board cannot accurately manage the cooling cycle, which means food safety temperatures may not be maintained. You should transfer frozen items to another freezer until the fault is diagnosed and repaired.

A power reset (unplugging the unit for several minutes) may temporarily clear the error display, but if the underlying sensor fault is still present, the code will return once the unit restarts and re-checks the sensor circuit. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent, but it does not fix the root cause. Proper diagnosis and component repair or replacement are required to permanently clear the code.

Some causes are DIY-friendly. Start by checking the sensor wiring and the connector at CN30 on the main PCB for visible damage, corrosion, or loose pins. Measuring voltage between CN30 pins 4 and 8 (should be between 1.0V and 4.5V) with a multimeter can help confirm whether the sensor or wiring is the problem. Replacing the thermistor sensor itself is a moderate repair, but diagnosing a faulty main PCB typically requires more advanced testing.

If only the F-SENSOR thermistor needs replacement, parts typically cost between $15 and $50, and a technician visit may add $80 to $150 in labor. If the main PCB is at fault, parts alone can range from $100 to $300 or more depending on the model, with additional labor on top. Wiring harness repairs generally fall toward the lower end of the cost range.
