DRIVE COMM ERROR means the output control board attempted to communicate with the drive motor three times and got no response on any attempt. The dryer treats this as a fatal error and locks out operation until the fault is cleared. The most likely causes are a loose or damaged wiring connection between the board and motor, a faulty drive motor, or a failed output board.

Start by clearing the error and observing whether it returns. If it does, inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the output board and drive motor for loose pins, corrosion, or physical damage. If the wiring checks out, test the drive motor for proper function. If both the wiring and motor appear sound, the output control board may need to be replaced.

Repair costs depend on which component has failed. If only a wiring connector or harness section needs replacement, costs are generally modest, typically in the range of $50 to $150 for parts and labor. A drive motor replacement usually runs between $150 and $350 depending on the specific model and labor rates in your area. Replacing the output control board tends to be the most expensive fix, often ranging from $200 to $450 or more.

A reset can clear the error code, but it will not fix the underlying hardware problem if one exists.
