This error means the dryer has detected a communication failure between its main control board and the Serial Payment System, such as a coin acceptor or card reader. On Type 1 machines, the error displays for 2 seconds and the machine continues operating. On Type 2 machines, codes 11, 18, or 19 trigger Machine Error Mode, preventing operation until communications are restored.

A power reset may temporarily clear the fault on a Type 1 machine if the disruption was caused by a brief power fluctuation. However, on Type 2 machines, the dryer will remain in Machine Error Mode regardless of resets until the actual serial communication link with the payment system is physically restored. Resetting will not resolve a failed module or damaged wiring.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there may be no parts cost, though a service call from a commercial appliance technician typically runs in the range of $75 to $150. If the payment system module needs replacement, parts and labor combined can range from $150 to $400 or more depending on the specific payment hardware installed. Wiring harness repairs fall somewhere in between depending on the extent of the damage.

Start by inspecting all wiring connections between the payment module and the control board, ensuring every connector is fully seated and free of corrosion. If connections appear sound, check the serial communication wiring for damage along its full length. If the wiring and connectors are in good condition, the payment system module itself may need to be replaced.

The error relates to communication with the payment hardware, not to the dryer's heating or mechanical systems, so there is no immediate safety risk associated with the fault itself. On Type 2 machines, the dryer will refuse to operate in Machine Error Mode, which prevents use until the issue is corrected.
