SCI COMM ERROR means the front-end control board and the output board have lost serial communication with each other. As a safety response, the output board shuts off all outputs, including the motor and heater, so the dryer stops running. The fault can stem from a loose wiring connection between the two boards or from the output board detecting an internal System Integrity Error.

Start by unplugging the dryer and inspecting the wiring harness that connects the front-end control to the output board. Reseat all connectors firmly and look for any damaged, corroded, or broken wires. If connections are secure and the error returns, the output board is likely generating a System Integrity Error internally and may need to be replaced. A technician can perform further board-level diagnostics if needed.

Repair costs vary depending on the cause. If only a harness connector needs reseating or a wiring repair is required, costs can be relatively low, generally in the range of $50 to $150 for a service call. If the output board requires replacement, parts plus labor typically fall in the range of $150 to $400 or more depending on your location and the specific board pricing at the time of repair.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error if the communication disruption was caused by a momentary glitch, but the code will return if an underlying problem exists. The dryer should not be operated while this error is active. The output board has intentionally shut off all outputs in response to the communication failure, meaning the dryer cannot run in a controlled manner.
