Sub-Zero Refrigerator Error Code Steady light

On the Sub-Zero UC-15I undercounter ice machine, the control board uses an indicator light system to communicate the operational status of the thermistor circuit. A steady light on the control board is not an error condition. It is a positive status indicator confirming that the thermistor is reading within its expected parameters and functioning normally. The thermistor is a temperature-sensitive resistor that provides real-time temperature data to the control board, allowing the ice machine to regulate its harvest cycle, freeze cycle timing, and overall thermal management.

The UC-15I relies on accurate thermistor input to determine when ice has reached the proper formation point and when to initiate a harvest. If the thermistor were failing or reading out of range, the control board would display a different signal, such as a flashing or absent light. A steady light therefore indicates the thermistor circuit has continuity, is producing a resistance reading within the acceptable range for the current temperature, and the control board is interpreting that signal correctly.

Technicians should treat a steady light as a baseline reference point during diagnostics. If a customer reports ice production issues but the control board shows a steady light, the thermistor itself can be ruled out as the root cause, and diagnostic attention should shift to other components such as the water inlet valve, harvest mechanism, or refrigeration system. Documenting the steady light condition during a service call helps narrow the fault to non-thermistor systems.
