What 0222 means on a Wolf oven
Error code 0222 on a Wolf oven indicates that the bake element DLB (dual load board) circuit has detected a shorted condition on the lower oven relay board. The relay board controls power delivery to the bake element by switching high-voltage relays on and off in response to signals from the oven control board. When the relay board detects that the bake element circuit is shorted, it triggers this fault code to prevent sustained overcurrent conditions that could damage wiring, components, or pose a fire hazard.
A shorted bake element DLB condition typically means that electrical continuity exists in the heating circuit when it should not, or that resistance in the circuit has dropped to near zero. This can occur because of a failed relay on the relay board that has welded its contacts closed, a shorted bake element that is drawing excessive current, or damaged wiring between the relay board and the bake element terminals. The relay board itself may also have a failed triac or internal component that falsely reports or causes the short condition.
Because the lower oven relay board is both the detection point and the likely source of the fault, the first diagnostic step is to replace the relay board. Before doing so, a technician should inspect the bake element for visible damage such as cracks, blistering, or burn marks, and check the wiring harness between the element and the relay board for chafed insulation or melted connectors. If the bake element and wiring check out, the relay board is the primary suspect and should be replaced.

Common causes of 0222
- 01
Failed relay board with welded contacts
Part replacementA relay on the lower oven relay board can fail with its contacts fused closed, creating a continuous circuit that registers as a short. This is the most common cause and is why relay board replacement is the primary diagnostic step.
- 02
Shorted bake element
Part replacementThe bake element itself may have developed an internal short, causing resistance to drop near zero and triggering the fault. Inspect the element for visible cracks, burn spots, or blistering, and test continuity between the element terminals and the oven chassis.
- 03
Damaged wiring harness
Wiring / connectionWiring between the relay board and the bake element can suffer insulation damage from heat exposure, leading to a short between conductors or to ground. Check the harness for chafed, melted, or pinched sections near the element terminals and board connectors.
- 04
Failed internal component on relay board
Part replacementA triac or other solid-state component on the relay board can fail in a shorted state, causing the board to report a DLB short even if the bake element itself is intact. Replacing the relay board resolves this condition.
