Samsung Dryer Not Heating?
Samsung dryers that tumble without heat are a very common complaint. The cause is usually something you can fix yourself, especially if it’s a venting issue.
Always unplug the dryer before accessing internal components. Electric dryers use 240V — a shock from this voltage can be fatal. Never bypass the thermal fuse, even temporarily.
Step-by-step troubleshooting
Pull the lint screen out and wash it with soap and water — dryer sheets leave an invisible film that blocks airflow even when the screen looks clean. Then disconnect the exhaust vent from the back of the dryer and check for blockages. A 4-inch dryer vent brush kit (about $20) is a worthwhile investment.
Samsung electric dryers use a 240V circuit (two breakers tied together). If one half of the breaker trips, the dryer will tumble but won’t heat. Turn both breakers fully off, wait 30 seconds, then flip them back on.
Switch to a Timed Dry cycle on High Heat. If the dryer heats on timed dry but not on auto dry, the moisture sensors inside the drum are dirty. They’re the two metal strips near the lint trap opening. Clean them with rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball.
The thermal fuse is a safety device that blows if the dryer overheats. On Samsung dryers, it’s on the blower housing or exhaust duct. If it’s blown (no continuity on a multimeter), the dryer won’t heat. Replace it, but always fix the root cause (usually a blocked vent) first.
On Samsung gas dryers, watch through the small window at the bottom front while the dryer runs. You should see the igniter glow bright orange. If it glows but the gas never lights, the gas valve coils have failed. If it doesn’t glow at all, the igniter itself is bad.

When to call a professional
If you’ve replaced the thermal fuse and it blows again quickly, there may be a thermostat failure causing the dryer to overheat, or the heating element may be grounding out against the housing. A tech can test the hi-limit thermostat and cycling thermostat to pinpoint the issue.
