Samsung Washer Won't Spin?

A Samsung washer that won't spin often displays a UE (unbalanced) or DC error code. Here’s what to check before calling for service.

Step-by-step troubleshooting

1
Redistribute the laundry

Unbalanced loads are the top cause. Open the door and rearrange the clothes so the weight is distributed evenly around the drum. Avoid washing a single bulky item like a blanket by itself — add a few towels to balance it.

2
Check the shipping bolts

If the washer is new or recently moved, the shipping bolts on the back must be removed. These bolts lock the drum for transport and will prevent proper spinning. There are usually 3–4 bolts with plastic spacers. Remove them and keep them for future moves.

3
Level the washer

Samsung washers vibrate significantly if not level. Rock the washer — if it moves at all, the feet need adjustment. Loosen the lock nuts on the front feet, turn the feet to level the machine, then re-tighten the lock nuts. All four feet must be firmly on the floor.

4
Check the drain filter

Samsung front-load washers have a debris filter at the bottom right behind a small panel. A clogged filter can prevent draining, which stops the spin cycle from engaging. Place towels down, open the filter slowly, and clear any debris.

5
Test the lid lock (top-loaders)

On Samsung top-load washers, the lid lock must engage for the spin cycle to start. Close the lid and listen for the clicking of the lock. If you don’t hear it, or if you see a dC error, the lid lock assembly may have failed.

When to call a professional

If the drum makes a loud grinding or banging noise during spin, the spider arm (the bracket connecting the drum to the shaft) may have corroded and broken. This is a known issue on Samsung front-loaders and requires a full drum replacement.
