Error code 6 on a Bosch dishwasher means the appliance has exceeded 7 drain pump attempts or has been pumping for more than 54 minutes without successfully lowering the water to the required level. This is a drainage system fault. It can be caused by a blocked pump, a clogged filter, a faulty pressure switch, or a defective sensing unit.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code display, but the fault will return if the underlying drainage problem is not resolved. The code is triggered by a physical condition, not a software glitch. You should address the blocked or defective component before running another cycle.

If only cleaning is needed, such as clearing a blocked filter or pump, the repair can cost very little beyond your time. Replacing a pressure switch or sensing unit typically runs in the range of $30 to $80 for parts. A drain pump motor replacement, including labor if a technician is involved, can range from $100 to $250 depending on your location and service rates.

Start by removing and cleaning the sump filter assembly at the bottom of the tub, then inspect the drain pump area for any debris or foreign objects jamming the impeller. It is not advisable to continue running the dishwasher while error code 6 is active. The appliance has already shut down as a protective measure because water is not draining properly.
