What U52 means on a Dacor oven
The U52 error code on a Dacor oven indicates a redundant switch failure within the upper or single oven door latch mechanism. Specifically, the cam switch and the lock switch are reporting states that should be logical opposites of each other but are not. During normal door locking and unlocking cycles, these two switches work in a complementary fashion: when one is open, the other should be closed, confirming the latch cam has moved to the correct position. When their states agree rather than complement each other, or when one fails to change state at all, the control system flags this as a U52 fault and halts operation to prevent unsafe oven conditions.
The latch motor mechanism drives a cam that physically actuates both switches as the door locks or unlocks. If the cam is worn, the motor has stalled, or either switch has failed electrically or become misaligned, the expected complementary relationship between the two switches breaks down. The relay board monitors these switch inputs at connector J18, and any mismatch triggers the U52 code. The fault can be intermittent if a switch is sticking or if wiring to J18 is loose or corroded.
Diagnosis begins at connector J18 on the relay board, where the technician can observe the actual logic states of both the cam switch and lock switch during a latch cycle. If the switch states are incorrect or static, the latch motor mechanism is the most likely failed component and should be replaced first. If replacing the latch assembly does not resolve the fault, the relay board itself may be misreading or failing to process the switch inputs correctly and would then need replacement.

Common causes of U52
- 01
Failed latch motor mechanism
Part replacementThe latch motor or its internal cam has worn out or seized, preventing one or both switches from changing state during the lock cycle. This is the most common cause of U52 and is confirmed by observing static or incorrect switch states at J18.
- 02
Faulty cam switch or lock switch
Part replacementOne of the two redundant switches inside the latch assembly has failed open, failed closed, or become mechanically misaligned so it no longer responds to cam movement. Checking continuity at J18 during manual cam operation can isolate a defective switch.
- 03
Loose, damaged, or corroded wiring at J18
Wiring / connectionPoor connections at connector J18 on the relay board can cause the control system to read incorrect switch states even when the switches themselves are functioning correctly. Inspect the connector and wiring harness for corrosion, bent pins, or loose connections.
- 04
Relay board input circuit failure
Part replacementIf the latch mechanism and all wiring check out correctly but the U52 code persists, the relay board may have a fault in the circuit that reads the switch states. The relay board is replaced after the latch mechanism has been ruled out.
