Dacor Oven Error Code U70
Upper/single comm error
Upper/single comm error - loss of communication between logic board and upper power board.
First step from the service manual
Verify communication line connections (J7-J23, J8-J23) between relay and logic boards. Connect cables properly, then replace relay board if needed.
The complete diagnostic procedure includes additional test steps, resistance specifications, wiring diagram references, and component test points.

What U70 means on a Dacor oven
The U70 error code on a Dacor oven indicates a loss of communication between the logic board (also called the control board) and the upper power board (relay board). This communication link is responsible for carrying control signals from the logic board to the relay board, which in turn switches the heating elements and other high-voltage components on and off. When this data pathway is interrupted or degraded, the oven cannot safely or accurately control its own functions, triggering the U70 fault.
The communication between these two boards travels through specific connector pairs identified as J7-J23 and J8-J23. A fault can originate at either end of these connectors or anywhere along the cable harness between them. Loose, corroded, or improperly seated connectors are among the most frequent causes. Physical damage to the wiring harness, such as pinching or heat exposure inside the oven cavity, can also break or intermittently interrupt the signal.
If connector inspection and reseating does not resolve the fault, the relay board itself may have failed internally, causing it to stop responding to signals from the logic board. In less common cases, the logic board may be the source of the communication failure. Technicians should always begin with a thorough inspection of the J7-J23 and J8-J23 connections before condemning either board, as connector issues are far more common and less costly to address than full board replacements.

Common causes of U70
- 01
Loose or disconnected communication harness connectors
Wiring / connectionThe connectors at positions J7-J23 and J8-J23 on the relay and logic boards can loosen over time due to vibration or thermal cycling. Reseating these connectors is always the first diagnostic step.
- 02
Damaged or broken wiring harness
Part replacementThe cable running between the logic board and relay board can be pinched, burned, or broken, especially if routed near heat sources inside the oven chassis. Inspect the full length of the harness for visible damage.
- 03
Corroded or oxidized connector pins
Wiring / connectionMoisture or heat exposure inside the oven can cause the connector pins at J7-J23 or J8-J23 to corrode, increasing resistance and disrupting the communication signal. Check pin condition closely during inspection.
- 04
Failed relay (upper power) board
Part replacementIf connectors and wiring check out, the relay board itself may have failed and is no longer able to receive or process signals from the logic board. Replacing the relay board is the recommended next step after ruling out wiring issues.
- 05
Failed logic board
Part replacementIn rare cases, the logic board may have failed and is no longer transmitting communication signals properly. This is typically diagnosed only after the harness, connectors, and relay board have been evaluated and cleared.
