The dF error code on a Daewoo refrigerator indicates that the freezer door switch (F-Door Switch) has been detected in the open position continuously for more than one minute. The door switch is a small electromechanical sensor mounted in the freezer door frame that signals the control board whether the freezer door is open or closed. When the board registers a sustained open-door signal beyond the one-minute threshold, it logs the dF fault and disables certain functions tied to door switch sensing, such as interior lighting control and compressor cycling adjustments that respond to door status.

The error will clear itself automatically once the control board detects a valid open-and-close cycle from the freezer door switch. This means the fault is not permanently latched and does not require a manual reset through a button sequence. If the switch is functioning correctly and the door is being physically opened and closed, the board will recognize the transition and terminate the error. However, if the switch is mechanically stuck, electrically open, or its wiring has failed, the board will continue to read a constant open-door signal and the dF code will persist.

Common root causes include a door switch that has worn contacts and no longer closes the circuit when the door shuts, a switch plunger that is physically obstructed or broken, loose or corroded wiring connectors at the switch or the control board, and in some cases a door gasket or alignment issue that prevents the door from pressing the switch actuator fully. Diagnosing the fault starts with manually operating the switch while observing whether the interior light responds, which confirms whether the switch itself is functional.
