Electrolux Air Conditioner Error Code PL
DC bus-bar voltage too low.
DC bus-bar voltage too low.
First step from the service manual
Measure voltage at L and N terminals on wiring board XT; if lower than 150VAC, wait for supply voltage to normalize. If AC input is normal, measure electrolytic capacitor voltage on AP1 and replace AP1 if abnormal.
The complete diagnostic procedure includes additional test steps, resistance specifications, wiring diagram references, and component test points.

What PL means on a Electrolux air conditioner
The PL error code on an Electrolux air conditioner indicates that the DC bus-bar voltage has dropped below an acceptable threshold. The DC bus is the internal high-voltage DC rail that powers the inverter drive circuit, which controls the compressor motor speed. This DC rail is created by rectifying and filtering the incoming AC supply through a bridge rectifier and a bank of large electrolytic capacitors on the main control board (AP1). When the voltage on this DC bus falls too low, the inverter cannot operate the compressor safely, and the unit shuts down to prevent component damage.
The most direct cause is low incoming AC supply voltage at the unit's wiring board terminals L and N. If the measured voltage at those terminals falls below 150VAC, the rectified DC output will also be proportionally low, triggering the PL code. This can result from grid supply issues, undersized wiring, a tripped breaker with high resistance, or voltage sag from other heavy loads on the circuit. In these cases, the fault clears once the supply voltage returns to normal levels.
If the AC input voltage at the XT wiring board measures within an acceptable range but the PL code persists, the fault points to the electrolytic capacitors on the AP1 control board. These capacitors smooth and hold the rectified DC voltage. When they degrade, fail to charge properly, or develop excessive internal resistance, the DC bus voltage collapses under load. Measuring the capacitor voltage directly on AP1 will confirm this. An abnormal reading at that point indicates the AP1 board requires replacement.

Common causes of PL
- 01
Low incoming AC supply voltage
Wiring / connectionIf the voltage at the L and N terminals on the XT wiring board measures below 150VAC, the DC bus cannot reach adequate levels. This can result from grid voltage sag, overloaded circuits, or undersized supply wiring.
- 02
Degraded electrolytic capacitors on AP1 board
Part replacementThe large electrolytic capacitors on the AP1 control board store and smooth the rectified DC voltage. When these capacitors age or fail, they can no longer maintain adequate DC bus voltage, triggering the PL code even when AC input is normal.
- 03
Faulty AP1 main control board
Part replacementIf capacitor voltage measured on AP1 is abnormal and the AC supply is confirmed good, the AP1 board itself is the identified replacement component. Damage to the rectifier circuit or other board components can prevent proper DC bus charging.
- 04
High-resistance wiring or loose connections
Wiring / connectionLoose or corroded connections at the XT wiring board terminals can cause a voltage drop under load, resulting in insufficient voltage reaching the unit even if the supply at the breaker panel is acceptable.
- 05
Transient grid voltage event
Wiring / connectionBrief voltage sags or dips from the utility supply, such as during peak demand periods or after storms, can momentarily drop the DC bus voltage and trigger the PL code. The error may clear on its own once supply voltage stabilizes.
