What F11 means on a Frigidaire microwave
The F11 error code on a Frigidaire microwave indicates a shorted key condition. The control board, known as the Electronic Oven Control (EOC), continuously monitors the membrane keypad for input signals. When the EOC detects that a key has been registered as pressed for an abnormally extended period, it interprets this as a short circuit in the keypad circuit rather than a legitimate user input. As a safety response, the control board immediately terminates all oven activity and displays the F11 fault code.
The most common cause of this fault is a failure within the membrane keypad itself. Over time, the conductive traces or contact layers within the keypad can degrade, crack, or become contaminated with grease and moisture. This causes two contact points to bridge together, simulating a continuously pressed key. Physical damage to the keypad surface, such as a warped or dented touchpad from impact or heat exposure, can also force key contacts into a closed state.
If pressing the STOP key clears the fault and the microwave resumes normal operation, the issue may be intermittent and related to a marginal keypad connection. However, if the F11 code returns persistently after pressing STOP, the EOC itself may have developed an internal fault causing it to misread keypad input signals. In that scenario, replacement of the EOC is the recommended corrective action.

Common causes of F11
- 01
Failed or shorted membrane keypad
Part replacementThe most frequent cause of F11 is a degraded membrane keypad where internal conductive layers have bridged together, simulating a stuck key. Inspect the keypad surface for bubbling, warping, discoloration, or visible damage.
- 02
Moisture or grease contamination under the keypad
Wiring / connectionSteam or grease that has worked its way beneath the keypad membrane can create a conductive path between key contacts. This often produces intermittent F11 faults that come and go with use.
- 03
Physical damage to the touchpad surface
Part replacementA dented, cracked, or compressed area on the keypad can hold one or more key contacts in a closed position permanently. Check the touchpad face for any visible deformation or impact marks.
- 04
Faulty Electronic Oven Control (EOC)
Part replacementIf the keypad appears undamaged and the F11 code persists after pressing STOP, the EOC itself may be misinterpreting keypad signals due to an internal component failure. EOC replacement is required in this case.
- 05
Loose or corroded keypad ribbon cable connection
Wiring / connectionThe ribbon cable connecting the membrane keypad to the EOC can develop a poor connection over time, causing erratic or false key press signals. Inspect the connector for corrosion, bending, or incomplete seating.
