This fault is most commonly triggered during or after a self-clean cycle. It can be caused by a faulty lock assembly, a failed position switch, or a wiring problem.

The F097 fault is specifically related to the door lock mechanism and primarily affects the self-clean function. Standard baking and broiling may still operate depending on how the control board responds to the fault. However, you should not attempt to run a self-clean cycle until the door lock issue is resolved, as the board may not be able to safely manage the high-temperature lock sequence.

Start by cycling the power for 30 seconds to rule out a transient fault. Next, inspect the door latch area for any physical obstructions or debris blocking the lock mechanism. Check the wiring harness connected to the motor door lock assembly for loose connectors or visible damage. If the wiring and latch area look intact but the code persists, the motor door lock assembly or its internal position switch is likely faulty and will need to be replaced.

A 30-second power cycle is the first recommended diagnostic step and can clear the code if the fault was caused by a transient control board error. Turn off the range at the circuit breaker or unplug it, wait 30 seconds, then restore power. If the F097 code returns immediately or after the next self-clean attempt, a physical or electrical component fault is likely present and will need further diagnosis.

If the fix is simply clearing a wiring connection or correcting a minor obstruction, costs can be minimal. Replacing the motor door lock assembly typically involves parts costs ranging from roughly $50 to $150 depending on the specific model, plus labor if a technician performs the repair.
