What F75 means on a GE cooktop
The F75 error code on a GE cooktop indicates a User Interface (UI) key error. This means the control board has detected a fault condition originating from the touch keypad or membrane switch assembly. The UI board is responsible for receiving input from the user, such as burner selection and power level adjustments, and transmitting those commands to the main control system. When the cooktop detects an unresponsive, stuck, or continuously activated key, it triggers F75 to alert the user and technician that the input panel is not functioning correctly.
The most common root cause of this fault is contamination on or beneath the touch surface. Grease, food debris, moisture, or cleaning solution residue can bridge keypad contacts and simulate a key being held down indefinitely. This causes the control logic to interpret the signal as an error condition rather than a valid user input. In some cases, physical damage to the membrane overlay or internal keypad traces can produce the same result.
If cleaning the UI surface and cycling power does not resolve the fault, the UI board itself is likely defective and requires replacement. A failed UI board may have damaged touch sensor circuitry or a faulty communication interface between the keypad and the main control. Because the diagnostic path moves directly from cleaning and power cycling to board replacement, there are no intermediate component-level repairs recommended for this error code.

Common causes of F75
- 01
Contaminated keypad surface
Wiring / connectionGrease, food residue, or liquid on the touch panel can bridge keypad contacts and mimic a stuck key. Clean the UI surface thoroughly with a soft cloth and appropriate cleaner, then check if the error clears after cycling power.
- 02
Stuck or physically damaged key
Part replacementA membrane key that is physically depressed, warped, or damaged may continuously signal the control board. Inspect the keypad surface for any visibly deformed or unresponsive areas.
- 03
Moisture intrusion beneath the keypad
Wiring / connectionLiquid that has worked its way beneath the membrane overlay can cause persistent false key signals. Allowing the unit to dry completely after cleaning spills may resolve intermittent occurrences of this fault.
- 04
Failed UI board
Part replacementInternal failure of the user interface board, including damaged touch sensor circuitry or a faulty communication circuit, can produce an F75 fault even when the keypad surface appears clean and undamaged. Replacement of the UI board is required in this case.
- 05
Intermittent power or wiring issue
Wiring / connectionLoose or corroded wiring connections between the UI board and the main control can cause erratic key signal behavior. Inspect connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or poor seating before replacing the board.
