GE Oven Error Code F3-E1

F3-E1 on a GE oven means the control board has detected a short circuit condition in the lower cavity temperature sensor circuit. The sensor should read approximately 1080 ohms at 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and a reading significantly below this triggers the fault. The issue can originate from the sensor itself, its wiring, or in some cases a faulty relay on the control board.

It is not recommended to operate the oven with an active F3-E1 fault. A shorted temperature sensor means the control board cannot accurately read the lower cavity temperature, which could result in the oven overheating or failing to regulate heat properly. Discontinue use until the sensor circuit has been inspected and repaired.

If only the lower cavity temperature sensor needs replacement, repair costs are typically in the range of $50 to $150 for the part, plus labor if a technician is hired. If the control board is also faulty due to a welded relay, board replacement can add $150 to $350 or more depending on the model. Getting the sensor confirmed as the actual cause before purchasing parts can help avoid unnecessary expense.

Disconnecting power to the oven for a few minutes may temporarily clear the F3-E1 code, but it will return if the underlying problem is not corrected. Since the fault points to a hardware issue with the sensor circuit, resetting alone is not a fix. Proper diagnosis of the sensor resistance and wiring connections is needed to resolve the error permanently.

Start by disconnecting power to the oven, then locate and inspect the lower cavity sensor and its wiring harness. Use a multimeter to measure the sensor resistance, which should be around 1080 ohms at room temperature. If the resistance is out of range, replace the sensor. If the sensor measures correctly and connections are secure, the control board should be inspected for a welded relay and replaced if one is found.
