GE Oven Error Code F3-E2

F3-E2 means the control board has detected an open circuit in the microwave temperature sensor. The sensor is a thermistor that should read around 280 kilohms at room temperature, and an open reading tells the control the circuit is broken. The fault is usually caused by a failed sensor, a loose connector, or damaged wiring.

It is not recommended to continue using the appliance with an active F3-E2 code. The oven cannot properly monitor microwave cavity temperature without a functioning sensor, which means thermal conditions are not being verified. Continued operation could present a safety risk.

If only the microwave temperature sensor needs replacement, parts typically range from $20 to $60 depending on the model, plus labor if a technician is used. If the control board is also at fault, board replacement parts can range from $100 to $300 or more, making total repair costs vary significantly based on the root cause.

A knowledgeable DIYer can diagnose this fault by disconnecting power, checking the sensor connector, and measuring sensor resistance with a multimeter. If the sensor reads out of range, it can be replaced. If wiring and the sensor both check out, the control board may need replacement, which is a more involved repair.

Disconnecting power for several minutes may temporarily clear the code, but if the underlying sensor or wiring fault still exists, the error will return during operation. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent, but it does not repair a failed sensor or broken wiring.
